Post Office ChangesAllegra Rolling Meadows is dedicated to helping you keep up to date with the postal process. Like the rest of the nation, the United States Postal Service is trying to cut costs. One way they are planning on doing this is by requiring all standard mail to run through a process called Move Update, which makes sure that the people or company you’re mailing to really is at the address you have. Allegra Rolling Meadows has the software to process your mail with the Move Update.
This will cut down on the mail that is processed but undeliverable because someone moved. The drawback is that it also changes the price of a mailing, and there is a fee for not using the Move Update process. The original date for this standard to take effect was May 11,2009. Recently, the date has been changed to January 4, 2010. This is what the Postal Regulatory Commission had to say:
“Standard Mail Move Update Noncompliance Charge Postponed
We filed an
amended notice with the Postal Regulatory Commission to postpone the Move Update noncompliance charge for Standard Mail and to adjust our prices for Confirm service.
We extended implementation of the Standard Mail Move Update noncompliance charge from May 11, 2009, to January 4, 2010. The charge applies to Standard Mail mailings that fail to fully comply with the Move Update standards. Delaying implementation allows extra time to provide our Standard Mail customers with additional feedback from our new postage verification systems, but does not relieve mailers of their obligation to comply with the Move Update standard if they intend to claim automation or Presort prices.
The new Move Update verification procedures will not be used to assess additional postage for First-Class Mail or Standard Mail at the time of mailing until January 2010. However, as noted above, customers are still required to comply with the Move Update standards in the DMM.”
